John D. Balavitch

John D. Balavitch is an attorney in the firm’s Business Law, Estate Planning, and Real Estate practice areas. Throughout his career, John has served as a trusted advisor and counselor for businesses and estates of all sizes, ranging from sole proprietors to publicly traded companies. 

In practice, John has provided legal support for the Board of Directors of a Fortune 4 company, senior executives and management of S&P 600 and S&P 25 companies, and closely-held business owners on matters regarding corporate governance, securities, and commercial transactions. Notably, John has assisted with closing a $12 billion corporate bond offering and negotiating several multimillion-dollar international agreements. John also enjoys working with businesses and families on succession and estate planning matters. 

Prior to his career as an attorney, John was a regulatory compliance professional and served as an ethics, privacy and security professional for the largest health insurance provider in Michigan, a data privacy professional for a global leader in workforce management solutions, and a law clerk at a boutique cybersecurity and data privacy law firm. 

John, a graduate of the University of Michigan (B.A. ’16) and Wayne State University Law School (J.D. ’21), joined Trowbridge Law Firm, P.C. in 2025 after spending almost 10 years in various corporate roles. When he is not practicing law, John enjoys music, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
